Beginner’s Mind

This is the first of a three-piece series. Beginner’s mind, samsara and death.

A beginners mind is “having an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when studying a subject, even when studying at an advanced level, just as a beginner in that subject would.

Suzuki Roshi famously said, “In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s there are few.”

Tribute to Regina: My artist neighbor died and when her husband relocated, he left me a piece of her painted silk and said “use it in your felt.” This is a tribute to her (Regina) and her painted silk is the patch of flowers just below the face.
